7th September 2021:
Warm welcome on arrival. Comfy beds. Enjoyed full use of facilities in a great location. Would have loved a teapot!
Tips:Pizza night at bakehouse Friday and Saturday. Good food at Kimberley inn. Cafe and chip van on the Bay. Village shop has all your basic needs if without own transport, also phoenix shop at findhorn foundation just 15 minutes walk away. Confirm taxi bookings the day before especially for airport!

Excellent location towards the centre of Findhorn village. Good equipped kitchen. Clean bathrooms. The floor in the dormitory and kitchen sitting room were not very clean. Dirty very smelly dishes in dishwasher when I arrived and rather full bins and recycling.
Tips:Kimberly inn, the bake house cafe, Captains ice cream pallor. Seals at the end of the mouth of the bay when the tide is out.

WE stayed in a dormitory of 4 bunkbeds. It was not easy to open the window, so there was not much fresh air. It would be better to have more rooms with fewer beds. Bins were not empty. There was no lock in the room. The Kitchen is well equipped and easy to use. However, we enjoyed staying there. Convenient as a budget accommodation.
Tips:Possibility of kayaking, beach walks, kite surfing. Only one fish and chips take away tough.

Great little stop for our hike along the Moray Coastal trail. My friend and I stayed in the small bunk room which was perfect for what we needed. The room and facilities were clean, tidy and welcoming, with a good sized communal kitchen.

Thanks for looking after us, especially when we were short of bedding. We had an amazing time back at the hostel again. Only thing to note TV signal isn’t working.
Tips:We absolutely loved the bakery. Kimberley Inn is best for evening meals. Phoenix for cafe lunch. We enjoyed beach walks, cycling, tennis(honesty box), paddle boarding and kayaking at the marina(pop in and book day ahead), Roseisle forest by the beach is well worth a visit.

Hostel is in a fantastic location, big warm and bright, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay happen during the pandemic. Fridges and dishwasher need repaired/serviced, otherwise nice big kitchen and plenty’s of room for food prep. Been before and glad we came back.
Tips:Findhorn has a smashing beach serviced by a row of eateries so at least a day there, the water taxi takes you to nice walks across the estuary. Forres is a lovely wee town, you are close to culloden which is a great visit.

The Village Hostel is a great place to stay in Findhorn. We stayed in the Lobster Pot, which is a self-containe annexe, with bathroom and cooking facilities. A few hooks in the bathroom for hanging clothes, towels, etc. would be a good addition. As would some form of heating: it was unseasonably cold while we were there.
Tips:Fabulous long sandy beach; great watersports facilities; two good pubs which serve food, a couple of cafes and very useful village shop/post office. Burghead, Hopeman and Lossiemoth just along the coast are worth a visit, as are nearby towns of Forres and Elgin.

Rented the hostel for a family gathering. Great hostel with good space, facilities & comfy beds, Richard was great and also provided some local eggs which went down well at breakfast. Only 2 small issues, the bin was nearly full in the kitchen when we arrived and they could do with some new serrated knives as they are pretty blunt for chopping.
Tips:We didn’t go far but local beaches are incredible for walking.

Tips:Recommend going to Kimberly Pub, excellent people, great food. Gets very full from 6pm. Overlooks sea, so sunsets too! Beach is round corner about 15 min walk, beautiful seals to see. Usually empty so great place for some you time. Can visit Foundation from here a mile walk away The Bakehouse in the village is excellent food is incredible and they cater for all allergies.

I longed to see the seaside and loved walking on the beach along the bay and in the village. The rooms were really clean and the kitchen fully equipped and comfy. A laundry room would be a nice addition, although the size of the hostel may not make it worth the expense it would sure be a plus.

Tips:The bake house, Kimberley’s, the view on the bay all at Findhorn Village. The Findhorn Community the park, located a little bit further at the same road. Warm, comfortable, well cared for hostel. Liked that we were left to make ourselves at home over the week, quiet and relaxing. Thanks for help and flexibility regarding booking and payment. Notes - loo paper in one loo and paper towels ran out over course of the week, and it wasn't cleaned much - we didn't mind as had been there all week but new guests coming in might have been less happy. Was hard to make contact with staff as we were away during office hours, might be good to have a notice in the hostel advising preferred way to make contact out of hours just in case.
Tips:Excellent outdoor course with Wild Things, who are also based at Findhorn Village Centre. Lovely food at the Kimberly Inn, especially the herring. Seals on the rocks, lovely sunsets over the firth.

The booking system is a little strange - if you book in advance and are electronically invoiced there is no reminder to pay the balance. There was minimal follow up on booking; only once I queried paying the outstanding balance. It was fine in the end,but friends had their booking cancelled due to missing a phone call without further contact/ reminder. Communal areas are clean and comfortable, but the beds have not been swept under in a long time; it was pretty dusty under there - which unpleasant when you go to reach a dropped item. The recycling/ bins seem to emptied fairly regularly but they need to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected as they're unhygienic. These are minor things, as we had a lovely week, but felt they needed mentioned as I didn't actually meet anyone from the staff during my stay.
Tips:Bakehouse bakery/ gallery is great for lunch/ coffee. The Kimberley Inn is good pub food, their herring is great!

Another visitor had difficulty getting a hot shower and only succeeded on her final day (the third), though I must admit I had no difficulty and found it clear cut. I particularly appreciated the well stocked supplementary food cupboard as backpackers often have to go without some things when supermarkets and restaurants are not to be found close by at night.
Tips:During the winter the local restaurants and pubs are unreliably open at night and so a drive to Forres may be necessary for dinner (there are no buses).

We really enjoyed staying at the Village Hostel. The beds were comfortable, the showers and toilets were clean and in good condition and the kitchen was well-equipped. The only slight drawback was the poor internet connection - but that may be a local problem rather than the fault of the hostel. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Tips:Findhorn is a beautiful place, with a calm bay on one side of the dunes and a fantastic sandy beach on the other. There is a sailing school on the bay which offers lessons and equipment hire, including kayaks and surfboards. The Findhorn Foundation is nearby, with beautiful grounds and an esoteric range of activities and events. Nearby towns with historic interest include -Burghead with its Pictish 'broch'; Forres with the Pictish Sueno stone; and Elgin with its ruined cathedral, dating back to the 12th century. 29th May 2017:
we stayed in the annex which is brand spanking new and really nice. It does need a few extras which I'm sure youre probably already aware of but if not: somewhere to hang clothes/towels/ labelling of facilities e.g shower switch (it took me a while to work out how to turn it on at the mains). the means to open the velux windows and last but not least. a contact number in the annex for emergencies (the fire alarm went off very early in the morning and no of us were sure what to do).
