20th April 2024:

Positives Staff. Both Brenda and Fiona are top class, both very friendly and helpful. Evening meal. Food is excellent. Nice IPA on tap too. Location. A nice walk on the beach is good for the appetite. Its just a couple of hundred yards away. Only negative is that two rooms face onto the road and the noise can be considerable. In fairness there's not much they can do about that.

Royal Oak Hotel is a hidden gem, located as you enter Cullen. The hotel was of very high standard, the bedrooms where impeccable, even the shower, I mentioned the shower because the previous hotel, the shower was shocking. The evening meal was superd, excellent choice on the menu, from starters to desserts. My final word is to the Management ( Caroline ) and the brilliant staff at the Royal Oak who were all excellent, I will have no hesitation coming back to this facility.

Pleasant staff, comfortable bed. Clean. Let down by noisy and poorly fitted plumbing in a very small basic en suite. We had 6nights in hotels touring Scotland. This was poorest and higher priced than any other. Very disappointed and would not return or recommend.

The location of the Hotel is just great in Seatown area of Cullen and for walks and the beach area. Lovely views from the hotel of the sea and surrounding area. The hotel is very clean , comfortable and our room was very cosy. The staff are welcoming and can't do enough for you. Brenda the manager is lovely, and professional and makes time for you. We had a lovely freshly cooked breakfast at the hotel.

Great restaurants in the area Seafield hotel and Cullen bay hotel serve fantastic seafood dishes. Lovely walks around Cullen and coastal walks to next villages.

A lovely hotel for our overnight stay. Reasonable price for bed and breakfast.Very spacious comfortable room. Had delicious evening meal in the restaurant. Have eaten here before and recommend this hotel for food. Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning. Continental breakfast also displayed. The staff are lovely -helpful and so friendly. An enjoyable stay and we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for accommodation and good food in the Cullen area. Thank you.

Lovely walks along the beach from Cullen to Portknockie. Great ice cream from The Cullen ice Cream shop and also along the road in The Portsoy Ice cream Parlour. Spey bay for wildlife and dolphin watching. Good chip shops in Cullen and Portknockie. Spotty Bag Shop not to be missed in Banff!

Wonderful coastline to explore of course. Walk up the Bin of Cullen for an amazing view. Visit all the harbour towns/villages of the Banffshire coast. Christie’s in Fochabers is worth a visit. Walk/cycle the Moray Coastal Trail. Bird watch at Troup Head. Take part in the Six Harbours Walk in early May. Good food at the Royal Oak in Cullen.

We had a super overnight stop over at the Royal Oak. All members of staff are brilliant. We had a lovely evening meal and breakfast in the morning was amazing. Our dog got loads of attention from all staff. The hotel sits right beside the super beach so we enjoyed a couple of great walks there.

Thank you for a lovely stay. We felt really welcomed from start to finish by everybody. The room was lovely and clean and we had everything we needed. Our breakfasts were outstanding and kept us going all day. The 2 meals we had with you were excellent, especially on our last night. The Royal Oak was a great base for our short break.

We took the 35 bus to Buckie and walked back to Cullen all along the coast stopping at the little towns/villages en route. Findhorn is a must to visit with a lovely walk round the bay and a stop at the tearoom overlooking the bay. We walked from Cullen to Findlater Castle which was an amazing find and really worth a visit but is definitely not a walk for the less able. Take a walk up along the viaduct, over to the Temple of Pomona, up to Castle Hill and along to the old Kirk. We had a couple of excellent meals at the hotel, fish and chips from Cullen fish shop and a lovely meal at The Admiral in Findochty. A fantastic location for a short break.

Kyle was exceptionally good to us. Waiting on our late arrival from Glasgow. Next morning - he couldn't do enough for us. Loved the welcome pack for dogs - very nice touch. I was delighted with my stay: wonderful, friendly staff who made a big fuss of all three dogs. As advertised as a dog friendly hotel, sometimes with three animals you are looked down upon as an inconvenience. NOT IN THIS CASE. Loved the wee doggy welcome pack. 🤗🐾 Food was excellent, big portions which were cooked brilliantly + again, eating in the bar with dogs was accommodated+ not an inconvenience. Overall cleanliness of hotel was superb, easy access so you could come+ go at all hours. Excellent location for a quick walk along the golf course, viaduct, harbour, Castle Hill or the hill up behind the viaduct. Walk along the coast to Port Knockie or Sunneyside Beach was close by, easily accessible + the scenery is absolutely fab!

As there over Christmas/New Year; most shops were unfortunately closed. However, I would recommend this area for walking. Go on Walk Highlands+ enjoy!

Can't fault the hotel this is the 4th time of staying there. Staff very friendly and accommodating and always smiling and I know all of them by name and I can class them as friends. Good is always top class and occasionally l will drive up from Aberdeen for a day trip and have lunch!

Lots of places to visit all within a short drive, walked garden,lighthouse museum etc etc. Plenty of places to eat around the area from comfy cafe's to high standard restaurants and if fish is your thing you'll will be spoiled for choice. And of course you have miles of beaches to explore and magnificent cliffs with some wonderful views

We had a fantastic two night stay at the Royal Oak. Our room was spacious, clean, well decorated and very homely. The staff were so accommodating - nothing was too much trouble for them. The bar and restaurant were great - delicious food including a 10/10 Cullen skink. The breakfasts set us up well for days of exploring! Hotel is situated a few minutes walk from the beach and from the Main Street. The manager was very friendly and helpful. It was like a home away from home. Would definitely return.

I like visiting Scotland and had never been to Cullen before, lovely town and beach and very convenient being close to the beach, I was lucky to get the weather. However the prices for evening meals as expected were expensive and can get better deals than that in Birmingham

Don't go to the chippie, I had pie and chips and it was awful, the food was hard and I should have taken it back. Do go to the top of the hill or even where the flagpole is and you get a nice view of Cullen all round

Of course you will get cheaper food in Birmingham. We pride ourselves in offering local produce which comes at a cost. We booked this hotel to spend just a night in Cullen. I was going with my 1 year old and my parents. We had such a lovely experience, it was perfect for a family stay, so clean and tidy, staff members so helpful and kind, the decor so beautiful and calming. The food was incredible especially Cullen skink which we took away and had on the harbour. They provided food for under 5 years old with more variety than other places which added lots of points. I think it was just that day that the wifi was not working, allowed some disconnection though. I would highly recommend this place, we’ll come back for sure.

The Royal Oak is a great spot in a beautiful little sea side town. The staff is exceedingly friendly and the food outstanding. In fact, it was the best Cullen Skink we had during our entire two weeks in Scotland. It is a short walk to the golf course or beach. Definitely will stay here again.

The golf course is really unique. Hard to believe they could get 18 holes in there but the layout works, even though it is short. No problem getting on and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The beach and Cullen harbor are right there. Parking is easy.

Enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oak. The room we had was a twin room which was a good size, the only negative being that the shower room needed a bit of attention and was on the small side. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent, staff and owner all very pleasant and helpful. The location of the hotel is good in that you are a stones throw from the sea front.

We were made to feel very welcome and the room was comfortable and clean. Nicola was an excellent waitress, and all staff were friendly. Food was fresh and delicious.

Cullen was a lovey village to end our Moray Coastal Trail walk and this hotel felt like luxury after a week of camping. Would stay here again and recommend to anyone. Also, we had lunch in The New Denver which was very tasty and again, polite and helpful staff.

Royal Oak Hotel. Had a lovely relaxing two night stay at The Royal Oak, room was a twin everything you need, stocked up with tea, coffee water on both days, breakfast was amazing, the perfect poached eggs! Plenty to choose from- cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast, cooked breakfast with plenty of items to choose from. Dinner menu had plenty to choose from, we had Lasagne, very nice, my sister has a small appetite they had No problem when we asked for a smaller portion and they charged us for a junior portion, thank you. Hotel is dog friendly and do a dog menu which is great. Hotel is two minutes walk from the most beautiful beach, a walk in the morning and evening is a must! Cullen is so lovely , driving into Cullen and seeing the viaducts and the beach from the road is an amazing view! Check in was quick, hotel manager Caroline is very pleasant and stops for a chat, I asked for a couple of cupcakes for the room as it was my sister’s birthday and they were there free of charge! If eating in hotel make sure you book as restaurant gets very busy. Linda’s fish and chip shop, lovely fish supper! Amazing ice cream in The ice cream shop. Amazing clean Beach. 10 minutes drive to Portsoy for more amazing ice cream and visit the harbour where they filmed The Peaky Blinders!

From the moment we walked in the door we knew we had chosen well. Brenda and all staff could not do enough for us. Our room was lovely and very comfy. We liked the varied menu and ate in each night we were there. They cater for all from children to Oap's. Even pets have a nice selection. The menu is clearly marked for most dietary needs. Brenda and her staff were really friendly. My visit was in remembrance of my late wife, and Saturday and Sunday were difficult days for both me and my two girls. However your staff went out of their way to make my stay relaxing, and I have to say that breakfasts are super, piping hot. I had not planned to eat there every night, but the meals really are excellent, so I did. Am And no regrets! The fire alarm at around 4:30 on Tuesday morning was perhaps not a highlight, but it gave me an opportunity to chat to other guests, one of whom was from Kirkwall where I plan to go later this year..

I cannot recommend other local places because the Rockpool Café where I intended to try the Cullen Skink on Monday was closed. And meals at the Royal Oak were too good to even consider other options,!

Friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast was very good and the evening meal we had was good too. The menu was superior pub food with decent choice for vegans or vegetarians too.

Lovely small hotel with the most accommodating, friendly and professional staff. You managed to squeeze us into a very busy dinner service on arrival and we are so happy you did, the food was fantastic. Recently refurbished rooms were clean and bright with a super collections of teas, coffee and quality biscuits too. Toiletries smelt luxurious and bed was very comfortable.

Take a walk along shore at low tide, especially in front of sea wall. The views are great for photos from the viaduct.

The staff were vey helpful and polite. The room was small but was clean and tidy with everything that we needed. The food was good, especially the steak pie. We both liked the breakfast there was a good menu choice. The bar was very busy with a good range of malts.The hotel is dog friendly and even has a dog menu.

The hotel is five minutes walk from the beach which is handy for dog owners. Cullen itself is a quiet town. We visited off season on a Monday and found a lot of the shops closed.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel has been tastefully refurbished and is really pleasing to the eye. Loved the paintings and attention to detail. We had our dog with us and he was made most welcome. Our bedroom was nice with plenty of storage space and tastefully furnished. Although the shower wasn't big it was adequate for our needs and the water and lovely and hot. Rooms were upstairs with no lift, so those with mobility issues might find the stairs and corridors a challenge. Food was excellent. I had venison steak which was beautifully cooked. Breakfast suited all tastes. The manager was very attentive and there was a good working relationship amongst staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this favourite village of Cullen. We have stayed in more expensive accommodation in the area but have to say, the Royal Oak is really good value for money.

Cullen is just beautiful, with its viaduct and great coastline views and lovely walks. There is a golf course too. We come to Cullen and the area often as we love the area. The beaches are great for families.

Had a really warm welcome and a lovely room. Location really good and easy to find, parking no problem. Hotel really clean and well managed throughout offering a lovely breakfast whatever your preference and a great place to eat in the evening after returning from a day of fanatic walking right from the door. Nothing to much trouble for the staff. We stayed in Room 8 which has a fantastic all round view of the sea, beach and viaduct. A beautiful room, big windows, great shower and comfy bed.

Coast walk in both directions is beautiful. Regular bus service along the coast is a good bonus for the way home or those less able dropping off very close to the hotel in Cullen. Cullen has a great fish deli to pick up lunch for the walk, we had Cullen skink scotch eggs and a pie. Two minute walk to beach is fantastic info you are hoping for the aurora which we were lucky enough to see on one evening and so good not to have to go far. Fantastic welcome at this hotel. Staff so friendly & helpful. Very good freshly cooked breakfast. Very clean & comfortable. Would definitely recommend The Royal Oak in Cullen. 😁

Room was ok,too hot overnight,even with radiator off,too noisy with window open. Bed comfort was very good,and having water,tea,coffee etc.Towels were excellent.Bathroom was very small,slight smell from saniflow system,and sometimes water came up through shower.Shower cubicle very small for a larger person,my partner struggled a bit to shower properly.Breakfast was nice,with fresh cooked food.On the whole was fine for overnight stay,the price per night is a bit expensive for type of room in our opinion.
