A very welcoming host and hostess and a beautiful room. All Covid 19 procedures were followed and the dining room had limited tables and screening for extra protection. There is a limited but very varied and adventurous menu and all the dishes were to an exceptionally high standard - special requirements catered for with no fuss. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and will be coming again as soon as we can.
Tips:We did a bit of shopping and had a walk on the beach at Findhorn followed by lunch at The Red Lion in Forres - very nice.

1st November 2021:
Where to start? On a much-needed break from London, we spent four glorious nights in this charming hotel. Our room was airy, comfortable, scrupulously clean and more than adequate to our needs. We were particularly impressed by the stringent, but unobtrusive, Covid precautions in place - would that we had these in England! The many glowing reviews we had read about owners Julia and Lloyd were spot on. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming or attentive. And now to the food... Wow! Absolutely fabulous, though it would be remiss of me not to issue the warning that a stay at The Cluny Bank is not for anyone trying to lose weight. Every meal was a treat from start to finish – and with so many little dishes between courses. Previous guests have spoken about Lloyd's obvious passion for cooking and his personal attendance at the table to describe, in amongst all the jokes, the mouth-watering desserts he so lovingly prepares - they were not wrong! All in all – a really lovely stay. In Arnie’s immortal words: we’ll be back…
Tips:Brilliant location, whether going into the Cairngorms, following the Loch Ness trail or striking north to Ullapool.

31st October 2021:
The rooms are always beautifully presented and all are slightly different. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Whatever your day has been, either shopping, walking or just enjoying the Moray countryside the hotel is a place of comfort and warmth to return to and recharge. Personally, my job takes me around the UK and I stay in many different hotels. Clunybank is my favourite hotel.
Tips:Very simply enjoy the area, the beach at Findhorn is stunning all year round. If history is your thing there are mysterious Picts to explore around the area and the obvious draw is the Whiskey Trail, beginning with Benromach in Forres itself.

17th October 2021:
The hotel is a lovely Victorian house in a fairly quiet road of similar buildings. We were impressed by the size and comfort of our room. Covid prevention details have been very well planned. Our evening meal in the hotel was a real delight. Aperitif, Amuse Bouche, Starter, Main, Pre Dessert, Dessert, Cheese, Coffee/Tea and all delicious and beautifully presented. The accompanying wine was perfect. The chef came to our table to describe the desserts and obviously has a passion for food. Breakfasts also had a plentiful choice of varied, delicious dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the very peaceful surroundings.
Tips:We visited Findhorn, Burghead and Lossiemouth for long walks. Culloden, which was a great visit for a bit of local history and the Brodie Countryfayre just outside Forres which has a huge cafe/restaurant and lots of shopping opportunities. Car parking there was difficult as it was around lunchtime on a wet day. Our journey home took us all along the Moray Firth coast visiting the towns and villages. The Cardamom Spice Indian restaurant in Forres was very nice and we highly recommend the Mosset Tavern - also in Forres - for their friendly service, food and situation.

Lovely grand town house hotel ('restaurant with rooms')in leafy Forres. Our spacious room had character, warmth, a wonderfully comfortable bed and was spotlessly clean. Julia and Lloyd were very welcoming, made lovely cooked breakfasts and produced one of the finest evening meals we have had in recent years; make no mistake it was dining par excellence, imaginative, varied and, well, run out of superlatives really. You will need to book ahead for this!
Tips:Forres is an attractive small town with lovely parks. Findhorn, close by, boasts a fantastic sandy beach, So many other beaches along the Moray coast too and plenty of other towns, villages and ancient sites to explore. An underrated destination!

Another fabulous stay. Thank-you for the warm welcome and care Jules & Lloyd. Our room was once again fabulously furnished, comfortable and spotless. But the most delicious food make this a particularly classy option. Lloyd lovingly prepares some amazing courses from local suppliers and saving room for dessert is highly recommended. Great value packages are available for longer stays.
Tips:Check out the Windswept Brewery in Lossiemouth for tasty brews and the Captains Table Inn in Findhorn Village. Great views over the harbour and nice food... A short walk reveals a beautiful beach beyond the sand dunes. Also recommend Spey Bay nature reserve.

It is the restaurant that is so brilliant here. The menu choices were locally sourced fresh seasonal produce superbly cooked, well balanced, and beautifully presented. The chef, Lloyd, is a master of his craft and does not hide in the kitchen! He has a wonderful presence, and not having a desert menu as such, he comes and describes every element of his desert choices. A great experience.
Tips:Don't miss an opportunity.

This was the most welcoming and helpful hotel we have had the pleasure of staying at. The hosts Jules and Lloyd continually strove to make everyone feel safe, with good Covid measures in place. They were always on hand to assist and were the very best at making everyone's stay a brilliant experience. They certainly did it for us and we would have no hesitation in returning. I am coeliac and my intolerance was suitably catered for and discussed at all meals. Lloyd, the most wonderful chef, came into the dining room during the evening meal to discuss the food and advise what was on the dessert menu for the day. He is the most entertaining chef I have ever known and his banter was infectious to all in the dining room. It was a real eating experience, certainly not to be missed. Their staff were also very smart, polite and efficient. In all, everyone made our stay the very best it could have been.

Not the first stay and certainly our go to when visiting the area. If you're staying further afield then it's worth the drive. A lovely setting with all the advantages that come from staying in a well run boutique hotel. Jules and Lloyd are always on hand to ensure needs are met. For a real treat do book at least one night in the restaurant, more if you can. The care and attention to every dish is delightfully apparent. A real gem!

The Cluny Bank is a gem of a small hotel. It boasts excellent food together with an extensive wine list and modest but well stocked bar. The hotel is perfectly located in a quiet neighbourhood in Forres. In these difficult times with Covid 19 Jules and Lloyd have gone out of their way to ensure that their guests are as far as possible protected from the virus. The measures taken are both sensible and comprehensive!
Tips:There is definitely no need to leave the hotel to look for restaurants elsewhere as it is hard to believe there can be many if any better than the Cluny Bank! Forres itself is a lovely town and Moray is worthy of investigation. You are also not far from Inverness, the Highlands and The Black Isle.

Ein kleines aber sehr feines, familiengeführtes Hotel mit einem ausgezeichneten Restaurant. Ein sehr abwechslungsreiches Frühstück mit frischen, regionalen Produkten. Unser bestes Frühstück in Schottland.

Fantastic hotel with very comfortable rooms and friendly helpful staff. I stayed here for 2 nights while attending a pipe band competition it was in a great location for Grant park and the town centre but is situated in a lovely quiet area. There was a very well presented breakfast buffet which had a large variety to choose from and also a menu to choose hot food from. There were nice little touches in the room e.g. Free bottle of water, wifi, a variety of tea and coffee including herbal teas and decaf coffee.I would definitely book this hotel again.

We would definitely stay again. Thank you Julie and Lloyd for a lovely stay.

Tips:A car would be of benefit as the hotel is quite a way up the hill. Apart from the excellent food served at Cluny Bank, a good alternative is the Mossett Tavern - booking advisable. very comfortable hotel just a short walk from the town centre. The owners were very welcoming and happy to assist with any requests. We stayed in the deluxe room which was spacious, very comfortable, spotlessly clean and quiet. We had requested a vegan/coeliac breakfast, this proved no problem to Lloyd who made sure that all of our dietary needs were met which was much appreciated. We also had an evening meal one of the nights at the hotel which was excellent, we wished we had arranged another evening meal during our stay.
Tips:Found Forres to be a pleasant little town. Due to our dietry requirements we couldn't find a great choice in restaurants. Welcoming staff although they didn't actually introduce themselves!!?? They were however pleasant and helpful. I was in a very nice single room, comfortable and not cramped like some can be.However, being a fresh-air fiend I would like to say that the opening of the very heavy sash windows needs to be addressed as opening these oneself could lead to injury.

Bathroom in the Den room far to small giving a feeling of confinement. Does not have space for the bath - should be replaced with a shower. Extractor fan needs repaired or replaced as bathroom did have a damp smell. Apart for forementioned had a very pleasant stay.

Owner Response:Hi, Just to let you know the new extractor was fitted today, thank you for bringing this to our attention. The bathroom is next on our list of refurbishments. We have spent a lot (for us) on refurbishing the rooms over the last 24 months and with them completed it is now time to start on the bathrooms when we have the funds to do so. We totally agree that a shower unit would make more sense but the en-suites were put in by the previous owners and we are making our way around the place. Kind Regards Julia

This was our third hotel on a 2 week break to Scotland. No matter what reviews you read, you will never please everybody, but this small hotel pleased me. Our room was in keeping with the property and it was interesting and full of character. It had everything we could want. The owners were friendly and looked after us well, again we couldn't have asked for better service. And, as for the food.... Everything was done to perfection..... starters, main course, and deserts.... all delicious. We don't visit Scotland as often as we should, but if we are ever in this part of the country then this will be on our list of places to stay.

Henderson Room The standing light in the room was not plugged in, but people may not realise this and it is hard to reach. The bathroom light switch is actually the one at the door and not the cord in the bathroom, which is fine, but I was told otherwise. Personally, I would remove the free standing towel rail in the ensuite. There is not enough room in there and I stubbed my toe on it as it was sticking out. Finally, the chain for the bath plug is missing, which makes it difficult to detach to use.
Tips:Many excellent features and great atmosphere. It is an easy walk to the town and the Pictish stone and just beside the Forres Golf Club.

A lovely friendly welcome, family run small hotel, lovely big rooms with all facilities you would need, and the food is to die for !
Tips:We were happy just chilling, popped up to Inverness one day for some retail therapy, and the second day visited Brodie Country fair, twice, on our way to Nairn and then on the way back again.

Had a great stay: thanks for putting us up during our cycling event & the copious supply of ice for my injuries. The food was some of the best I have ever had-already planning to come back with my wife at some point in the not too distant future.

Cluney Bank is all about personal service and attention to detail. You are made to feel very special from when you arrive until you depart. On top of that you should definitely eat there - the food is simply fantastic. We entertained for dinner and everyone was blown away, especially by the deserts. To top it off, we had to leave very early to catch a flight and the chef got up early to make sure we left happy and with a full stomach...strongly recommend this hotel and highly commend the management.

Lloyd and Jules are excellent hosts. They couldn't be more welcoming and friendly: nothing is too much trouble. Lloyd is a fantastic cook and the food is excellent. Our bedroom 'Cavanagh' was large, comfortable and extremely well equipped
Tips:Castles, gardens, lovely walks, beautiful beaches, Culloden, Fort George, Johnsons of Elgin and much more besides.
